Maun Vrat literally means a vow of silence. This is especially appreciated by people embarked on a spiritual journey, as spiritual growth necessitates that one’s speech be pure. To acquire purity in speech, the practice of silence becomes important. When one practices silence, one is able to weigh one's words before speaking, which makes whatever words coming out of the mouth to be have no harmful effect on another person, and thereby leaving no trace of guilt on the speaker as well. It thus means mastering one's tongue.
